There are three ways you can advertise.

1. By using Google AdWords.

   Your ad will show up in the Advertising box, along with other ads associated with keywords present on the page beign displayed. Visit Google for more information.

2. By renting the top-left corner.

   The rent is on a monthly basis and starts on the 1st of every month. The space is up for bid on a monthly basis, starting at USD$100. I accept bids for the next month via emails at janick@bergeron.com and will award the space to the highest bidder on the 25th of each month.

   Your ad must be a JPG or GIF file, 96x96 pixels. It will be linked to a URL you specify. I obviously must approve of both the picture and URL (sorry, no ads for adult sites allowed!).

3. By posting to the "Looking for Candidates" forum.

   The cost for postings ads to the "Looking for Candidates" forum of the Verification Guild for 30 days is US$100. The fee is waived if the posting is from an engineer looking to augment his or her team or the direct hiring manager. The fee applies to postings from head hunters and human resources departments.

No other form of unsollicited advertising or self promotion will be tolerated in the discussion forums.

The fee was introduced to help curb the flood of postings from head hunters who saw a posting to the Verification Guild as a no-cost, no-risk opportunity, not to generate revenue for myself or prevent postings.

However, recruiters are providing a valuable service (for which they should be compensated) of marketing the positions and sifting through several dozens of candidates. These are activities that would detract from an engineer's primary job of making sure a design is correct - which is an even more important (and costly) use of resources.

One also has to consider the consequences of not providing an avenue for recruiters to contact this audience, a highly desirable market segment. Spamming contributors would be their only option left.
